Welcome to When I Roam!
I am Lorenza, a Mexico local guide and dog mama. When I started this travel blog my life looked a bit different. It was 2020 and I was writing about once-in-a-lifetime trips and my home country: Mexico. But most importantly, I was healthy. Or at least, healthier. Mishka was already part of the picture and traveling back and forth from Italy to Mexico City with me.
A couple of years ago, my health started to decline. Symptoms I had had my whole life suddenly became disabling. No one could tell me what was happening. After many doctors and lots of pain, I was diagnosed with multiple chronic illneses. Today, I am back in Rome full time with my husband and our two dogs, Mishka and Lilo.

I want to share what I have learned about traveling with dogs and traveling with a chronic illness. While not always easy, I’ve found ways to continue doing the things that I love, even extreme adventures, so I don’t lose more of myself to my disability.
I hope my guides on traveling with dogs around Europe, like the one for Croatia with dogs, gives you ideas on where to go and what to do with your dogs. I also hope this blog can help you be confident in traveling the world regardless of a disability with some tips and tricks to make travel more accessible.
I also hope my guides of one of my favorite cities, Mexico City, are helpful so you can travel Mexico like a local! Here are some Mexican slang words to get you started!
Come roam the world with me as I explore Europe and Mexico with two dogs and with an invisible illness.

Meet Mishka!
Mishka is 8 years old and a task trained service dog. He helps me cope with my disability and has traveled the most with me. He will act completely different when he is wearing his service dog vest compared to when he is just a pet!

Meet Lilo!
Lilo is 3 years old and the sweetest dog! She makes me laugh so much. She used to be very anxious until we moved to Rome and has blossomed into a very confident travel dog!
